charcoal creature

Finally something that isn't done with pencil... this one is done with charcoal! This was actually done for my grade 12 art class. I didn't like the idea of making a creature made up of facial features initially (because i thought i sucked at drawing things realistically) but in the end I found to be a fun experiance in learning how to shade, and I surprised myself with the results. The light source here was just to the top right of it's head.

Personally I don't think it came out looking too scary, which is good... but I guess it can go either way, really. It was just supposed to look like a creature anyways. I like how the eyes and the "cone" underneath its head came out. I usually talk about what I'd have changed if I could do it again, but this time I'm quite content with everything that's there. The nice marks I got as a result were cool too. Art was one of the few classes I got graded really well in...

Oh, and this one was too big to scan so I took a picture with my brother's digicam... hey cool, deviantART even tells you what it was taken with on the side (haxx?).
